Travelers from India and other foreign cities must enter Nepal through Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. Janakpur has its own domestic airport, which is connected to Kathmandu's domestic terminal with regular flights between the two towns. The journey takes around 25 minutes, and several airlines, including Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, and Sita Airlines, fly from Kathmandu to Janakpur on a daily basis using small and medium-sized planes.

There are plans to extend Janakpur's domestic airport to include direct flights to other major Nepalese cities and perhaps India.

The city of Janakpur is the only part of Nepal with a railway connection to India. In 2014, the line connecting India's Jayanagar and Sitamarhi to Janakpur was closed for maintenance and conversion from narrow gauge to broad gauge.
Two of the closest border cities, Jayanagar and Sitamarhi, are connected to a number of significant Indian towns. People can travel to these cities by train from anywhere in India and then drive the rest of the way to Janakpur.

Regular buses run from Kathmandu to Janakpur, departing from New Bus Station or Kalanki Bus Stand. The buses are of modest quality; for 'Deluxe' bus alternatives, tickets must be purchased separately from travel agents in Kathmandu's Thamel district. Local buses are a less expensive option, and they depart from Gongobu's Long Distance Bus Station. With stops for food, the travel takes around eight hours in total. For a more luxurious travel experience, the same distance can also be completed by hiring a private cab. The Mahendra Highway and the BP Koirala Highway are the closest highways to Janakpur.

The cities of Jayanagar and Sitamarhi in India are only 30 and 45 kilometers from Janakpur in Nepal, respectively. There are buses that run from these cities to Janakpur; otherwise, you can drive the entire route yourself.

Cycle rickshaws are widespread throughout the city and are a practical way to go across the city's tiny streets to markets. Although local buses run along the city's outskirts on broader routes, in-city cabs are not yet available. E-rickshaws, automobiles, and tempos have become increasingly widespread in recent years, and they are a better alternative to the cycle rickshaw.

Amar Singh Thapa erected this shrine in honor of Ram, the prince of Ayodhya. The Ram Mandir is a 10-minute walk from Janaki Mandir and is located directly across from Dhanusagar. Many stone idols of Lord Shiva may be found on the temple's right side. Ram Navami and Vivah Panchami are the two most important festivals at Ram Mandir. Special bhajans are sung on Ram Navami because it is the birth tithi (date) of Ram. On Vivah Panchami, various specific traditional codes are conducted as marriage codes to be observed between Ram Mandir and Janaki Mandir.
